At Cornwell Labradors,
we are committed to creating
the perfect family companion.
By focusing on superior tested genetics, early and post placement socialization, and strategically innovative raising techniques, we ensure our puppies are well-prepared to bring joy and companionship to you and your family.
Our proprietary Puppy Structure method, backed by extensive research and expertise, guarantees that each puppy receives the best possible start in life, and that you are equipped to provide your puppy with the structure they need to continue thriving now in your care.
Your Cornwell Labrador spends their first ten weeks in environments specifically designed to optimize trainability and temperament as a family companion. Our Puppy Structure program includes daily handling, novel experiences, problem-solving activities, and systematic socialization that builds both confidence and curiosity and best of all, an intrinsic motivation to earn your approval through good behavior. When they come home, our training guides pick up where we left off, providing you with structured protocols for developing that foundation into the devoted, reliable, well-mannered companion your family deserves.
The Dog Who Started It All
After fifteen years as a professional dog trainer and behaviorist, I thought I understood dogs. Then Buddy joined our family and redefined what a Labrador could be.
Why Buddy Changed Everything
At Furbaby Haven, Buddy works as our resident demo dog for behavior modification, social skill acquisition, and basic obedience training with all client dogs. He possesses a genius-level ability to gain the trust of anxious, fearful, or reactive dogs through tactful, intuitive interaction—a skill we never taught him. He naturally leads fearful dogs toward trust and serves as a certified Emotional Support Animal for both humans, and the dogs in our care.
When we realized how exceptional he was, we built a program to continue his best qualities. Cornwell Labradors exists to give other families the same remarkable companion we’ve come to depend on.
Buddy is the foundation of our program: genetically (his son Barnaby carries his lines), philosophically (every decision centers on producing his caliber of dog), and practically (he sets our standard for temperament).
Most Breeders Are Solving The Wrong Problem
Here’s what nobody talks about: 85% of families want a dog who’ll curl up on the couch after a walk, play gently with kids, and stay calm when the doorbell rings. They want a companion—not a field trial champion, not a show dog, not a protection animal.
Yet nearly every breeding program optimizes for working ability, conformation standards, or sport performance. The research focuses on it. The health testing prioritizes it. The early development protocols assume it.
And families end up with dogs bred for jobs they’ll never do, exhibiting drives they can’t manage, requiring expertise they don’t have.
We breed specifically for the life your dog will actually live.
Service-Level Temperament From Birth
Buddy treats whelping his own litters as his job. He actively participates in the birthing process of our brood bitches, breaking amniotic sacs for struggling puppies if she gets inundated with several puppies out the chute at once; licking the puppies noses to stimulate their first breaths, and even saving lives, sucking fluid from the new puppies nasal cavity when I struggled with the nasal aspiration once. He watches over the puppies constantly and when they’re old enough to play, he plays so gently and mindfully of their mental and physical fragility, coaching their behavior and role modeling his wisdom intentionally. We never taught this. This is innate working temperament and gift for caretaking all species big and small.
With his pups and his bitches, from day one, he establishes boundaries and appropriate interaction. This same service-level temperament—calm under pressure, naturally nurturing, task-focused—is what we preserve in every Cornwell Labrador puppy.
These are dogs built for partnership: service work for your family life as your helper, executive function support for neurodivergent households, and intuitive companionship for those who need a dog that thinks with you, not just alongside you.
What This Means For Your Family
You receive a puppy raised by a certified behaviorist with fifteen years of experience, from health-tested parents, using proven protocols. You receive lifetime support and a safety net for your dog’s entire life.
Most importantly, you receive a Labrador whose temperament makes daily life exponentially better: calm in the house, enthusiastic outdoors, naturally gentle with family and driven to work as a part of your team.
The Puppy Structure Method
It Started With Buddy
We spent months researching before choosing Buddy. We wanted a family dog who could handle our busy household, work alongside our daycare and boarding clients, and be the steady, trustworthy companion we’d been waiting for.
He exceeded every expectation—not because of his champion bloodline (though he has one), but because of something we couldn’t have predicted: an intuitive genius for reading and calming anxious dogs. An unshakeable temperament with zero typical intact male behaviors. A dog who makes fearful dogs trust him without us teaching a single thing.
When we realized what we had, we faced a choice: keep this exceptional temperament to ourselves, or build a program to replicate it.
The Puppy Structure Difference
Most puppy buyers fail during weeks 8-16 not because they’re bad owners, but because they’re drowning in contradictory advice from trainers with competing philosophies, YouTubers with clickbait methods, and Facebook groups full of opinions masquerading as expertise.
They miss critical imprinting windows while trying to figure out who to trust.
Puppy Structure solves this by doing two things:
Weeks 1-8: We handle neurological stimulation, carefully staged socialization, and behavioral foundations using protocols designed specifically for companion temperament—not generic “puppy culture” programs optimized for working dogs.
Weeks 8-16 and beyond: You get a clear, structured roadmap that tells you exactly what to do each week. No guessing. No conflicting advice. No needing a degree in dog behavior to raise a well-adjusted puppy.
We give you the foundation. We give you the instructions. You get to enjoy your puppy instead of stressing about whether you’re screwing them up.
How It Works
Puppy Structure is a developmental system that builds stress resilience, social confidence, and cognitive engagement during your puppy’s first eight to ten weeks, setting them up to be the best family companion they’re capable of. As a Certified Canine Behaviorist with a BA in Psychology, MS in Behavioral Psychology Research, MS in Applied Statistics, and certifications in Canine Behavior and Behavioral Consultation, I use protocols inspired by my work with client dogs at Furbaby Haven. I actively develop research and data to add to the knowledge in the field of canine behavioral psychology and breeding practices.
Puppy Structure differs from some of the other traditional programs which focus primarily on exposure. Puppy Structure focuses on both exposure as well as capacity; developing your puppy’s ability to regulate stress, process new experiences, and engage cooperatively with both humans and other dogs.
For example: we engage puppies daily in activities of forced sharing with their littermates. I will lightly hold a single pig ear between two puppies, if either puppy tries to take it and run off with it, neither puppy gets it. Only when they agree to share it do they get to simultaneously chew on it. This method has remarkably reduced the common problematic behavior of resource guarding and our puppies develop into adult dogs who offer toys and treats to their pack members.
Families also report Cornwell Labs learn faster, recover from setbacks quicker, show impressive confidence in novel situations, and are all around the most well adjusted, ready to learn, and easiest puppy to live with they have ever known.
Every protocol is refined based on outcomes from our research within our breeding program and behavioral consulting practice.
Health Is Non-Negotiable
Every Cornwell Labrador comes from parents with OFA-certified hips and elbows, complete genetic health panels, and zero shared ancestry across ten generations—because genetic diversity matters as much as health testing.
Early Neurological Stimulation starts on day 3. Structured enrichment happens daily. Your puppy’s brain is being built for resilience, curiosity, and calm confidence from the moment they’re born.
Multi-Species Socialization & Prey Drive Management
Puppies are raised with our resident cats and chinchillas to teach boundaries and impulse control from the earliest developmental windows. This helps your Labrador coexist peacefully with small pets.
For Hunting Families
If you seek a Labrador for field work, please state this during application. We exclude hunting-line puppies from cat/chinchilla exposure to preserve natural prey drive. These puppies receive alternative enrichment appropriate for their working role.
Why American Field Lines
Our commitment to American field lines reflects fifteen years of hands-on experience producing companions who excel in family life. While English Labs have their place, we believe American lines offer distinct advantages for the modern family.
The Practical Advantages
No Drooling: Unlike English Labs, American field lines typically do not drool. Your furniture, car, and clothing stay clean.
Athletic Build: Lighter frame reduces joint stress while maintaining strength and endurance. They stay healthier longer and handle activity with less wear on their bodies.
Natural Weight Management: American lines maintain healthier weights naturally without the obesity tendency common in English Labs. Less risk of diabetes, joint problems, and shortened lifespan.
Balanced Energy: Properly raised American Labs are exceptionally calm indoors while retaining enthusiasm for outdoor activity. They have an off-switch that many English Labs lack.
Working Intelligence: Superior problem-solving abilities make them exceptionally responsive to training. They think independently and partner with you rather than simply obeying.
Structural Health: American lines have anatomical structure allowing safer, easier whelping and greater overall resilience. We see this in our own program and client dogs.
But What About That “Field Line” Energy?
The hyperactive reputation of American field lines comes from poor breeding and lack of early structure—not from the lines themselves. A properly bred American Lab with Puppy Structure foundation is calmer than most English Labs because they have learned emotional regulation from birth.
Buddy is an American field Lab. Barnaby is an American field Lab. Both are steady, trustworthy companions who settle naturally in the house. This is what correct breeding and early development produce.
